Summer 2002 at Livermore, California

Here is the group of people I mostly hung out with over the summer.  They are other computer nerd like me, working at Lawrence Livermore National Lab.  Sorry for all the nakedness.

Left to Right:

Me, Jason, Mark, Craig, Dedamia, Susan

We did lots of fun stuff together over the summer.  One thing we did was climb Half Dome at Yosemite.

stats:

Distance:  14 miles (roundtrip; there is a long trail to get there, first)

Starting Elevation:   4,040 feet

Ending Elevation: 8,836 feet

Elevation Gain:  4,796 feet

There were some great sites to see along the way.
I dig waterfalls.
After walking uphill for about 6 miles, we are almost to the steep part.
Ooooh, the (sorta) steep part.  This part wasn't too bad.  There is really no need to act like we are scaling a sheer wall here.  I definitely did not take any pictures during the steep part because I was using both hands to hang on for dear life.

We've conquered Half-Dome!  We figured it was necessary to get a nice picture at the top.  Notice how far I am standing from the edge.

Here is the view looking down from the top.
Later on that Summer, Jason and I took a trip to Napa Valley and took a tour of the Robert Mondavi Winery.  Here is Jason with his new friend, the naked lady statue.  I wouldn't mind having my very own naked lady statue some day.
Lots of barrels of really, really expensive wine.
Here is where they do part of the fermentation process.
Susan and I took off from work to go to the Muir Woods one day.
This place was highly recommended by my Mom.  It turns out she was right.
Here is Susan in a tree.  like, inside of the tree.

We did lots of other fun stuff while we were there:  San Diego Zoo, Alcatraz, hiking in the hills around Livermore, driving on Highway 1, and swing dancing and other fun stuff in San Francisco.  One thing we definitely did not do was go to the pride parade in San Francisco.  ugh.
